New Hotel Finder Feature: Filter by Distance

There’s a new feature we’re excited to see on Google Hotel Finder allowing users to easily filter by distance. This is something that we’ve called attention to a few different times in the past. The implementation looks great:

If you look to the top right of the gif above, you can see a new button in the map, reading “Show hotels 15 minutes from…” and when you click on this button, three things happen:

  1. The button content changes from “Show hotels 15 minutes from…” to “Within 15 minutes” and adds three options for the filter: by foot, by car, and by public transport.
  2. The map is updated with a marker, and the area and hotels within 15 minutes of that marker by the selected travel method are highlighted. Note that users can drag this marker around to change filtered location.
  3. The hotel list on the left side of the page filters down to only hotels that are in the selected area. All of the previously selected filters are maintained, and can be changed.

This is definitely an advanced feature, but once you get the hang of it, one of very high utility. This is the kind of thing we love to see because a better experience for users should result in better performance for advertisers. Paired with the other recent experiments we’ve seen on Google Hotel Finder (logo tests and average city rates, for example) and it’s clear that Google moving quickly on the UX side of things.
